Howdy everyone!  When I arrived to lab today, I noticed the GRE Word of the Day spot on the whiteboard was empty, so I wrote a word down and a sentence to go along with it!  I think writing words on the board is very fun and I think it helps our lab learn new and useful words!  I ran one Mars study, which went well, except that my participant ended up going over the allocated hour mark so I let her stay a few minutes extra to finish the survey.  I spent the remainder of my lab time continuing on with the Replication Meta-Analysis coding assignment.  I also made sure that my article was printed out so that I can read it before our Monday lab meeting discussion.  Before I left, I made sure to restart all of the computers in our area.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and a Happy Easter!

Today I was in lab from 11:30am-3:30pm. I ran three participants for Love from 11:30-1:00. There was no one signed up at 1:00 so I returned to the reception room and did various coding tasks (e.g., counting consent forms). I then worked on meta-analysis. I was only able to code three articles because most of the ones I read met the criteria to be rejected. The articles I read today were found on PSYCInfo and ProQuest. In my total hours for this week, I am also including my 1.5 hour training from yesterday. I trained with Ken for thirty minutes to go over the new coding protocol for the vastness moderators, and I trained with Wan to go over the new protocol for Love. Overall, lab went well today.

Today, I rolled into lab around 8:15 A.M. for my 8:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. lab shift. For the first half-hour of my shift, I went over the new protocol for the Love study and attempted to do more work on my thesis. Then I ran love from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. I had to stop the first participant on the survey at the end to debrief them. My second participant was a no-show but running the third participant went smoothly. No one was signed up for the following timeslot. So, I came back to the lab to put away forms and set out forms for Sydney, who runs after me. Then the next participant went well and finished on time.

Today, I arrived to lab around 10 A.M. and began working on my thesis. I was scheduled to run two rounds of the Mars study, but no one signed up for the study. So, I continued working on the thesis for the remainder of my shift. More specifically, I worked on the discussion section today in lab. For most of the time though, I read over research articles in an attempt to evaluate the stability, or variability, of the Need for Cognition scale, since the engineering students scored significantly higher on this scale than others.

Today I was in lab this morning from 8-11:30. There were no participants signed up for my two time slots for MARS. Therefore, the majority of my time was focused on coding the articles for the Awe Meta-Analysis.

Today I was in lab from 2-5pm. At the beginning of my lab shift I completed my cleaning task and wiped down the lab surfaces with Clorox wipes. During this time I also worked on meta-analysis and started where Sydney left off. I ran one Love study today under the new protocol and it went well. The participant followed all instructions and finished before thirty minutes were up. After running the Love experiment, I locked up the Love lab room and returned to our lab room to restart all of the computers for the end of the day. I was able to work on meta-analysis some more towards the end of my shift and ended up completing four articles for the day. I had to exclude three articles because two had only correlational data and the other was not in english. There was also an article with no online access so I highlighted it in blue.

Today I was in lab from 12:00-3:00. I worked on meta-analysis for the first two hours. Many of the articles today were either already excluded for various reasons or I found them to meet the criteria for exclusion. Furthermore, some were books and thus I was not able to code them today. Overall there were 28 articles of this nature. Furthermore, I could not access two of the articles through PSYCInfo or the other options given through PSYCInfo. Due to my progress being slowed by reading articles and then excluding them, I was only able to code two articles. No one signed up for the Mars study so I worked on various coding tasks for the last hour.

Today I was in lab from 10:00am- 1:00pm. I ran a mars study and everything went well with my participant. He took up the entire time but finished within the study time. Additionally, I coded for Awe-Meta analysis on an article about how religion influences awe and sense of self. During my coding time I worked on editing my results section for my independent project in making the wording more concise. It was a great Tuesday!

Carolina Jimenez 3/26/2018 and 3/27/2018

Yesterday, Wan trained me for the Love Study 2.1 and I started with the Replication-Meta Analysis coding task. Today I ran our first participant for the Love 2.1 experiment! It went well, throughout the video she opened the door and asked me if there was supposed to be sound. I noted that in our run sheet. I also edited the Love protocol and reprinted it.
